Full Install of Alida
CD-ROM version
This requires copying ALL 5 Alida CD's to your hard drive - you will need 3380 MB of hard disk space: Firstly, locate the installation folder where Alida.exe was installed on your hard drive (usually the 'Alida Game' folder) - this MUST be the destination for the folders in the procedure below.
  1. Insert the 'Alida 1' CD, and copy the folder named 'Alida 1 V' into the installation folder on your hard drive. To copy: drag the 'Alida 1 V' folder while pressing the CTRL key.
  2. Insert the 'Alida 2' CD, and copy the folder named 'Alida 2 V' into the installation folder on your hard drive.
  3. Insert the 'Alida 3' CD, and copy the folder named 'Alida 3 V' into the installation folder on your hard drive.
  4. Insert the 'Alida 4' CD, and copy the folder named 'Alida 4 V' into the installation folder on your hard drive.
  5. Insert the 'Alida 5' CD, and copy the folder named 'Alida 5 V' into the installation folder on your hard drive.

When you have completed copying all 5 Alida CD's as above, you should have 6 folders and Alida.exe all in the installation folder (Alida 1 V, Alida 2 V, Alida 3 V, Alida 4 V, Alida 5 V, M and Alida.exe). This can be done at any time - the next time Alida is started after this procedure, it will detect the files on your hard drive, and the CD's will no longer be required.
DVD version
This requires copying the Alida DVD to your hard drive - you will need 4.34 GIG of hard disk space: Firstly, locate the installation folder where Alida.exe was installed on your hard drive (usually the 'Alida Game' folder) - this MUST be the destination for the folder in the procedure below.
  1. Insert the Alida DVD into your DVD drive.
  2. Copy the folder named 'Alida V' from the DVD into the installation folder on your hard drive. To copy: drag the 'Alida V' folder while pressing the CTRL key.

When you have completed copying the 'Alida V' folder as above, you should have 2 folders and Alida.exe all in the installation folder (Alida V, M and Alida.exe). This can be done at any time - the next time Alida is started after this procedure, it will detect the files on your hard drive, and the DVD will no longer be required.

All you see is a blank white screen
If Alida is showing you a blank white screen, but you can still see and move the hand cursor and possibly still hear sound: This is due to an incorrect attempt at a "Full Install". Please review the 'full install' instructions. Possible causes:
  1. You may have just created shortcuts of the Alida folders (shortcut icons have little arrows on them). These will not work as they are just representations of the actual data - copy the folders from the CD's using the CTRL key.
  2. You did not copy the Alida 2 CD correctly - gamers sometimes don't copy the "Alida 2 V" folder from the Alida 2 CD because they assume that disk was copied when they installed the "Alida Game" folder - make sure you copy the "Alida 2 V" folder as well.
  3. Are all the folders and files in the same location as Alida.exe? In the installation folder on your hard drive (usually the "Alida Game" folder), you should have:
    • Alida 1 V (folder/directory)
    • Alida 2 V (folder/directory)
    • Alida 3 V (folder/directory)
    • Alida 4 V (folder/directory)
    • Alida 5 V (folder/directory)
    • M (folder/directory)
    • Alida.exe (application)

Alida tells you it needs a certain system or file
Alida requires Windows 98 or later / QuickTime 5 or later. Use the '!QUICKTI.EXE' installer on Alida CD 2 (or Alida DVD) to install QuickTime on your Windows computer. You may prefer to download QuickTime from Apple Computer's website: www.apple.com
If your system has earlier versions, Alida will let you continue but gameplay may be slow or erratic.

There is no sound or partial sound
  • Check the volume setting in the 'Sounds' menu of Alida to make sure that it is not set to 'Off'.
  • Check that your PC sound card is operating: open the 'Sounds and Audio Devices Properties' control panel and check that your sound card is working.
  • Check that your speakers are correctly plugged in and turned on.
  • Alida uses QuickTime for all sound and animation - QuickTime may not be playing sound through your particular sound card. You can test this by trying to play a QuickTime movie (with sound) using the QuickTime Player. If there is no sound, or get a message stating that there is no support with your sound card to play the sound track, contact the sound card manufacturer for support.

  • Set transitions to 'None'
  • Turn off 'Water Motion'
  • Skip long animations by holding down the ALT key before the animation starts. (Release the ALT key after clicking the mouse.)

Then select millions of colors (Highest 24 or 32 bit).

If you are getting this error message:

In this case, the more information you can pass on to us, the better. What steps led to this error? Either write down ALL the information in the Error Report window or copy the screen contents when the Error Report message is showing. There are two ways to copy the screen:
  • ALT + PRINT SCREEN = copies the active window (the Error Report window)
  • PRINT SCREEN = copies the entire screen as it appears on your monitor
You can then paste the image into a document and print and mail or email it to us.
